Heywire Compeitition Open

Young people from regional and rural Australia 16-22 years of age are invited to submit a story in text, audio, pictures or moving imagesabout their life issues and experience. Winning stories are selected from each of approx 41 ABC regions around Australia.

These stories are produced by the ABC and broadcast either on national ABC Radio, ABC Online and/or ABC TV.

Winners are invited to take part in the all expenses paid Heywire Youth Issues Forum, to be held at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra in February 2009.

The ABC will work alongside the winners to help produce the pieces that will finally be broadcast on the ABC, so Heywire is not about being the best writer or media maker. Heywire is absolutely about being passionate about issues and ideas and communicating them in such a way that people will take notice.

And what's classified as regional for Heywire? EVERY part of Australia outside Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth!

http://abc.net.au/heywire
The Heywire website is the heart of the competition - make Heywire one of the trusted and chosen sites for your students.

Young people can

*create their own Heywire profile page and network with other Heywirers from across Australia
*upload their video, audio, songs, text and photo entries for the competition live to the site
*comment on other entries and leave their own thoughts and comments

HEYWIRE IS MULTI-MEDIA

Heywire is about young people telling their story in the best format for them. They can choose any of the following:

*AUDIO: a written piece up to 400 words in a style suitable for radio - or an MP3 up to 3 mins long
*VIDEO: up to 4 minute video. It could be shot on the best camera possible, or on a mobile phone. The quality does not matter. It is the idea and how that is conveyed
*TEXT: up to 1500 words in-depth piece to be published in our zine and on our blog
*STILL SHOTS / ART: a series of 25 images/photos which tell a story

The emphasis is still on producing material that is engaging, creative and TRUE. It is still about personal experience and opinion, not fantasy.

This year selected Heywire stories will become features on RADIO, ONLINE and/or TELEVISION
